Carer Support

Anyone, anytime can become a carer.

Carers come from all walks of life and come in many forms. 

All carers need some support sometime.

Carers SA launched the Carer gateway in 2020 which allows Carers of all walks of life to get some support. 

The services offered include capacity building supports to help them deal with daily challenges, reduce stress and plan for the future.

  • Online skills courses

  • Self guided coaching

  • Online peer support community forum

Volunteer Group

Skylight Mental Health offers many mental health services including Carer Support Services. 

Carer Support services through Skylight are specific for those supporting someone with Mental health challenges.

The range of services offered includes Carer Counseling, Carer Support groups.

In addition they offer a wide range of services which might be helpful to carers although are not Carer specific, including groups based on the Fleurieu.

Yoga bumble bee is a private service where Carers can access a series strategies specifically for Carers around self care, self compassion, mindfulness and yoga.

Carer support for Dementia specific Care.
Caring for someone you love with Dementia is tough!
luckily there is some help available.
If the individual requiring care is eligible for my aged care or NDIS support, respite relief will be available through funding. 
Joining a Carer support group is often the first step. 
dementia.org.au can offer peer support groups and also counselling. They can also direct you to other services than may be helpful.

Cup of Tea

The Mental Health Foundation Parents and Carer’s Support Group is a friendly place where parents, carer’s and guardians of children or people with a mental illness or related conditions can come meet, chat, share advice and support each other through care-giving responsibilities. In this group, participants can open up about their own wellbeing, realise they are not alone, address past unresolved issues, set new goals, learn new skills and take charge of their lives in a supportive environment of like-minded people.
